What a wonderful time for hip-hop! The genre has split almost as much as the electronic scene has, spitting out new forms of rhyme and rhythm to keep the hip-hop heads occupied. Today I've got an exclusive EARMILK premiere to contribute to the movement.
Last time we checked up on Shan Vincent De Paul of sideways he was breaking old trends just like I mentioned. This newest release of "The Island" does that and more, as we get a further, more intense look at the young emcee's character. This one differs in that Shan emphasizes the lyrics more than the beat, offering insight with every bar. The interesting aspect of the track is the extensive vocabulary. Everyone knows it's substantially more difficult to rhyme complex words, but that holds no obstacle for Shan. He breezes through a thesaurus of words in incredible fashion.
The track isn't just for entertainment, it's an invitation. Shan says:
"Take the so called 'hottest' 50 rappers at the time, place them on an island and tell them to rap or die, no studio tricks or production to hide behind, no major label budget and see who the fuck'll survive"
Take a listen to "The Island" below, and get used to the styles of the Toronto native.
