Yesterday, Jay Prince delivered his debut EP BeFor Our Time—a project that's sound is a fusion between future-bounce, 90's boom bap, and jazz with a British flair.
The London-native flexes his lyrical chops and easygoing flow on some of the freshest, organic hip-hop production of this New Year on his debut effort. Joints like "Feel It," which features Soulection producer IAMNOBODI, and "4U/ Lately" elicit a chill, yet vibrant feeling with their heavily jazz-infused production that evoke visions of a cordial London night. As indicative by the title of the EP, on BeFor Our Time, Prince draws upon the tones and textures of old school genres, especially jazz and blues, bringing a warranted update of the genres with its fusion with the funky future bounce sound. This ultimately makes for a very progressive, yet musically rooted project that boasts tight rhymes and beats that will enthrall both old and new hip-hop heads alike.
