We’ve been following indie electro pop Clifflight’s rapid rise in the industry over the past year since the release of their Tryst EP, and one thing that stands out is their ability to tell a story through their lyrics. We saw this on their new spin on the old dirty dancing story “Do What You Want To Me,” and now on new track “Morning Light,” premiered through Billboard last week, with their definitive brand of accessible indie dance music. The new track tells the story of those hot, always messy and sometimes alcohol fueled summer hook-ups, which could turn into a relationship in a different season. Like the majority of their music, there are definite romantic and decidedly sexual undertones to the track that are the epitome of those in the moment rendezvous.
When you’re in the midst and throes of something that isdeveloping into genuine feelings but is perhaps too passionate to slow down, and so you hold off until you’re both sober. No matter how much you’d like her not to cry she can’t wait until the morning because it devolves into that mean drunk when you just know that you’re going to lose someone you could love, even if it remains unspoken. It’s been said recently that, “Morning Light,” is the track that will ultimately break the group in the industry with its rough-edged yet sensitive vocals, soundscaped, synthy electro-pop and live instrumental dance feel. I tend to agree, but also feel that the stories behind their music and their range as artist's will only continue to deepen over time.
