It’s always interesting to find out someone you work with on the business side of music, actually makes music, and it’s always such a pleasure to hear. Here we have Duncan Murray who when not running the Playlist Agency in London makes some pretty stellar dance music. Duncan got his start as a resident DJ for the internationally renown UK Superclub, Godskitchen while in his younger years. It was after that he got offered the opportunity to go and work in the music industry in London on the business side. Duncan decided to take that turn and started to focus on learning the music industry from the other angle whilst always producing on the side and finding his sound as a producer. Duncan claims he does not have one single genre preference, which reflects in his wide and varied sounds and ultimately resulted in his current music palate. Duncan remarks,
“I feel that I have started to develop my own sound now which is a mixture of the genres of electronic music that I love. I love melodies and the early sounds of progressive house. I think that style of music is missing from today’s electronic music. I think it might be coming back through as fans are starting to want new and interesting sounds. I also love the deeper side of house music and I guess my music is a cross between the deeper sounds but with a more melodic and progressive edge.”
Today we have his latest work, a remix for Glassnote Records fresh signee Daughter. Duncan completely transforms ”Smother” into the prefect dance room track. Warm and melodic, Duncan builds his version into a piece of perfection by creating a beautiful and intimate atmosphere highlighted by Daughters sweeping vocals. The airy dreaminess of the track which builds layers of emotion with it's pulsing chords will quench your heart and soul all at once.
