After a huge performance at A State of Trance 600: The Expedition's stop in Kuala Lumpur, Garuda's star pupil Ben Gold returns today for his first release of the year. Though not the most creatively titled EP, Mesocyclone/Why Not?, highlights why the British producer has been so successful on Garuda Music, and why progressive trance is where he flourishes. After proving that his vocal composition skills are just as good as his instrumentals with the release of "Fall With Me" last year, this EP gets back to the basics for Gold: intricate, beautiful piano-inspired melodies that seem like they're made for club-ready synths. The real stand out here is definitely "Mesocyclone," which judging by the acclaim it's gotten from Gold's peers seems to already have been a hit before its official release.
