If all rock music were made in the upper stratosphere, it would all sound like La Big Vic. The title track from the Brooklyn trio's new album Cold War soars and sparkles like so many blue-sky sprites. Emilie Friedlander's vocals bloom above synthetic choirs, lilting strings, ghostly synths, and big, confident percussion. An unquestionable bright spot on the record, "Cold War" twists Cocteau Twins heights into an off-kilter 21st century groove.
