Everyone seems to have an opinion on Steve Aoki but, regardless of your like or dislike, I think there are a couple of things that we all could agree on. First, the dance floor is always packed and raging when this guy throws a party. Second his brainchild, Dim Mak Records, has a knack for finding some of the best and brightest talents in the electronic scene. Personally, I can’t think of an electro house playlist of mine that doesn’t involve Felix Cartal, Autoerotique, or PeaceTreaty. And that’s exactly what the It’s The End Of The World As We Know It EP showcases: a trio of songs from talents across the world.
Aoki produced “Singularity” with the most recognized young producer from Indonesia, Angger Dimas, and the vocals of Kay. The chopped beats combine with her vocals and Dimas’ signature sounds to create a blend of electro goodness. On the other hand, “Transcend” with Denmark’s Rune RK leans toward the progressive side of things. The song really focuses on the builds, dropping into these pulsing four-on-the-floor beats. Despite my normal enthusiasm for any Angger Dimas track, I would have to say Aoki’s “Omega,” with American artist Dan Sena and the ever–enjoyable Miss Palmer, must be my favorite. Balancing serious grit with supremely blissful interludes of melody, the track just has that “it” quality for me.
