Mashup Monday – We're back again with some of the freshest mashes to start your week off right. These are the mashes that are worth hearing, so stop you're searching and instead settle down at your computer… turn up your speakers… and get ready for that sweet nectar that only EARMILK can give ya. Let's GO!

I had the pleasure with spending some extended time with my friend Bruneaux (you know the Pure Magic guy?) this past weekend as well as Ricky Cervantes!, and we got on the subject of underappreciated mashers. 2 names that instantly came up repeatedly (and dominated the conversation) were those of DJ Bahler and Frail Limb Purity. Unfortunately we don't have a new track by Bahler, but FLP has graced us with new material. The pairing in this instance was some Mike Jones and Paper Diamond with the combination proving to be a Eureka! moment when Mike Jones started flowing through the speakers. What I learned was that all it takes to make Mike Jones remotely enjoyable is some good ole Paper Diamond, and I have FLP to thank for teaching me this.

Another track that has been getting some repetition on my speakers is a mash that uses a throwback sample a la Corona. For you 90s' babies, Corona came out with the heavyweight track (in its' day) "The Rhythm of the Night" but newcomer Chris Heart throws it on top of recently released "Friends" done by Steerner. The construction of the track lines up perfectly between both songs, and brings an older sample back to its' glorified state. Speaking of glorified state, I've gotten back to my M83 kick. While I try to maintain M83 mashes to a minimum (mainly because the seemingly only used sample is "Midnight City"), but even I have to pay respect to mashes that use "Midnight City" well. In this case, I present Mada's "Midnight City Diamonds" and Yoni's "Our City". The former mashes Rihanna's new "Diamonds" track, while the latter mashes Taylor Swift's "Our Song" with M83. My preference is Yoni's mash, but Mada definitely gives him a run for his money. If you want more Taylor, then check out Yoni's Taylor-Made EP as well as the strangely addicting popped-and-screwed mash by Scott Melker titled "Me & My Bitch Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" utilizing Biggie.

For a more relaxing mash, then take a listen to Ryan Nellis' "Breathing Magpie" combining Jason Derulo with Patrick Wolf. I've never heard of Patrick Wolf, but his music really gives Jason Derulo a much more emotional and endearing sound. Ryan really captured the essence of both tracks, delivering a mash that you probably couldn't stop from playing when you want to let some emotions out. And finally, I want to premiere a new (and interesting) series being debuted by The Jane Doze codenamed "The Jane Doewnload". Playing off their name, The Jane Doze are ideally wanting to release a weekly new mash in which all samples are anonymous (get it Jane Doe?). Actually, the actual track name, well everything, is anonymous to the listener until the moment they open the track via their iTunes or preferred media player. And to do that, you have to head over to their Facebook page (found here) to grab the download. Only thing I can say is that this track utilizes _______ and expertly uses an amazing song by ________ to really build up the energy in true Jane Doze style. So check out Jane Doe 001 here and enjoy your Mashup Mondays!
