Filipina-English singer/songwriter beabadoobee is officially back with another new album – and a new single to boot.
Following a one-off collab with the Marías, beabadoobee announced her fourth album, Pylon, and dropped “Sun Has Set” as its lead single on Wednesday. Pylon follows up her 2024 album This is How Tomorrow Moves and will mark her first full collaboration with producers Jason Vance Harris and Luca Buccellati.
“Sun Has Set” sounds like classic beabadoobee fare. The composition mixes the aggression of rock, exemplified by both distorted and flanged guitars, with a pop rhythm, kept by catchy drum percussion.
The lyrics are a tell-off to someone whom the narrator seemingly had a good relationship with. This person has been harboring secret feelings for the narrator and is not taking her rejection of them well. The narrator fully cuts ties and leaves no room for closure.
“Sun Has Set” establishes a moody vibe for Pylon, which is consistent with how beabadoobee has described it on social media. It also sets high expectations for the rest of the record to match its quality when it releases Sept. 18.
