September is looking particularly promising as Bonobo, aka Simon Green, has officially announced his upcoming LP Distance In Static.
Due out September 11 via Ninja Tune, the record is said to represent the culmination of Green's 25-year career as a recording artist and one of electronic music's most influential voices.
The announcement arrives alongside the release of lead single "Me and You," a club-forward cut that has already been road-tested to great effect in Green's recent DJ sets, including packed pop-up events in London and Paris, where fans eagerly clamored for an ID.
Built around a driving four-on-the-floor kick, “Me and You” pairs floaty ambient textures with raw, reverb-soaked keys that frame its melodic sample, which crackles with a subtle static-like texture. The result is immersive yet memorable, balancing dancefloor momentum with the atmospheric sensibilities that have become synonymous with Bonobo's sound.
Upon first listen, “Me and You” ignites something instinctive, the kind of track that makes you want to find a dancefloor later or, at the very least, leaves you intrigued enough to dive deeper into the rest of the album.
Distance In Static was assembled across recording sessions in Los Angeles, Tokyo, London, and beyond, with a significant portion completed at Neil Young's legendary Broken Arrow Ranch in California, where Green spent several weeks earlier this year. The album also features a striking roster of collaborators, including Arooj Aftab, Joy Crookes, Nilüfer Yanya, Ichiko Aoba, Nicole Miglis of Hundred Waters, and Aanya Martin.
Lyrics appear in English, Urdu, and Japanese, while historic Iranian samples and guzheng recordings sit alongside Green's meticulously processed instrumentation, further underscoring the record's global scope.
Alongside the album announcement, Green has also unveiled a brand-new Bonobo live show designed by Pierre Claude, whose creative credits include Air, Gesaffelstein, Phoenix, and Caroline Polachek. The production will debut this November with a headline run across North America.
