Foam & Sand Delivers Profound Peace with stunning new album project "Quieter"

In an oversaturated world, a work that intentionally avoids demanding attention is a radical act. That’s precisely the territory explored by Robot Koch, who, under his ambient moniker Foam & Sand, has released the stunning new album Quieter on Trees and Cyborgs. The record is described as a "deeply restrained ambient work" crafted as a slow, deliberate "invitation into presence, attention, and emotional contact".

The sonic architecture of Quieter is minimalist yet warm. Koch strips his sound down to essential gestures, built predominantly from analog synthesizers, live vibraphone, chimes, and bells. He eschews digital perfection, instead shaping these elements "gently… through tape processing for warmth and saturation," allowing each sound room to truly breathe. This commitment to simplicity is a conscious compositional choice—treating "Patience and simplicity" as tools to "restore continuity of attention" rather than driving mere stimulation. The resulting soundscapes are deeply relaxing, a testament to the album’s goal of facilitating "deep rest".

Koch has positioned Quieter at the nexus of art and research, exploring how sound can actively "shape inner states, attention, and emotional experience". His work has been featured in collaborations with pioneers in neuroscience, including the Monroe Institute and Seeded Sound, which investigate neural regulation. Most notably, his compositions are part of the critical soundtrack for ongoing clinical research into psychedelic-assisted therapy with the Beckley Foundation / Beckley Psytech. This clinical grounding ensures the album’s therapeutic aims are not just philosophical but scientifically informed.

With subtle contributions from collaborators like vocalists Peia and Priscilla Ahn, and violinist Masha Brodskaya, Quieter is a triumphant exercise in reduction. It's an album that expands the mind, makes you think and draws you in with it's simplistic beauty. The album is a siren call to something greater.. Beautiful, markedly wonderful ambience.
