Norwegian art-pop duo Smerz return with Easy EP, a six-track release arriving May 15th via Escho. The project emerged unexpectedly during sessions for their 2025 sophomore album Big City Life, when recording the closing track "Easy" led them down a creative tangent that became its own distinct work. "Many of Big City Life's songs are rooted in specific stories," the duo explains. "This Easy EP presented itself in a more open-ended process, almost like a daily journal. It began as a snapshot of a moment, one that was about to become our spring last year, and was finished moving into spring of 2026."
Lead single "Spring Summer" showcases this more introspective approach: a short, downcast track with hazy, synthpop production that feels perfectly suited to the transitional mood between seasons. The EP also includes variations on its core tracks, with "Its here", "Spring Summer 3 Beat" and "Somewhere 2" offering different perspectives on the EP's central themes.
The release comes as Smerz embarks on North American and European tour dates supporting Big City Life, which landed at number 11 on several year-end lists for 2025. Last November, they extended that album's life through Big City Life Edits, inviting artists including Clairo, ML Buch, Astrid Sonne, Erika de Casier, and MIKE to remix tracks or add guest verses.
With Easy EP, Smerz demonstrates their ability to capture fleeting moments and transform them into compelling postmodern pop, proof that sometimes the most interesting work emerges from creative detours rather than planned destinations.
