Folk-rock artist Light Bird, aka Danni Hoshino, is releasing her new single "Williamsburg Bridge" on January 30th. The single is the first off of an album that walks through the past three years of Hoshino's life, realizing her true identity and changing her entire life along with it.
The song opens with a laid-back acoustic progression, which is immediately taken to a deeper level by the song's first line: "You had a good day, girl/ So why are you crying?" The line is so simple, yet such a perfect example of the everyday reality that many people face early in their transitions. This is where so much of Hoshino's musical power lies: the ability to turn light guitar and straightforward lyrics into a tune that's hopeful and emotional all at once. The remainder of the track follows suit, with every line being clearly filled with experiences and feelings that the artist is facing. Her voice is both reassuring and still figuring itself out, adding a level of comfort to this track; and combined with lines like "Sure, I'm happy now; more than I was/ Before I came here/ Before I knew who I really am," Light Bird reminds all of her listeners that we can all work through everything we're going through one day at a time.
The single is the first off of Light Bird's upcoming album, See Her, which chronicles her transition and all the ups and downs that have come with it. After this stunning first single, it's definitely an album to watch for.
