Internet-bred pop artist Tessa Violet is back with her first solo single in three years, “Knowing.”

Released Tuesday, the new Cavetown-produced song serves as the proper lead single off her upcoming fourth album, There Will Be Joy, which will follow up her 2023 album MY GOD! Notably, it will also be her first full-length release since getting married in 2023.

“Knowing” sees Violet adopt her lower vocal register to convey a sense of calm amidst the chaos. This does well to complement the composition, which consists of loud keys, synths, pounding drums and electric guitar, but also more organic instruments like acoustic guitar and strings.

As the song reaches its climax, the vocals are further layered and placed alongside gang vocals as the synths overtake the mix to get listeners dancing, before the strings bring it all home.

The lyrics seem to portray an internal struggle between accepting a sense of comfort and holding on to the spontaneity that marked one’s youth. But ultimately, the narrator finds the courage to refuse to accept unchosen complacency, knowing that they can take steps to make things better for themselves.

Violet has confirmed she will be releasing a new track from her next record every month leading up to its release, and “Knowing” successfully proves to listeners why they should be excited for it.
