For our next episode of EARMILK Chats, we sat down with Seattle-born, L.A-based singer songwriter UMI on her latest project: people Stories. A project born out of her mutual meeting with some passionate fans, People Stories takes intimate experiences shared to the singer from her fans into a narrative twist on her usual album layouts. But where UMI finds inspiration in others stories, her crafting creates an interpersonal meditation on her own mental state where fans will find the same vulnerable songwriting they've come to love.
People stories takes the singer songwriter to heights not seen through previous works, challenging UMI to weave secondary stories with her own side of introspective narrative. The project also takes more creative heights to play with the framework of the concepts, with some songs sounding out of pocket at first listen, only to support a deeper meaning.
While people stories may depart sonically from what fans usually expect of the artist, the soul for storytelling and ambition to live and create are on full display.
