Philadelphia native and all-round creative force Joy Burklund & Her Band, today share their debut album, Songbouquet, – a deeply personal offering that weaves Joy's transformative journey into its musical fabric. The album, a "kaleidoscopic, romantic, trans narrative," servces as a testament to overcoming personal struggles and finding joy amidst chaos. The artist explains that "When I first started writing what would become this record, I felt shy about these tunes. I thought- they’re too dramatic to appeal, and too disparate to congeal! But as I befriended these songs, each a flower of her own, I learned how they belong together. Like how the highlights belong next to the shadows, the screams next to the whispers next to the chants, and the longing next to the gratitude.

Three years later, I’m struck by the golden optimism in these songs. It’s something I had to dig for to make it through that phase, earlier in my transition" – Joy Burklund

Musically, "Songbouquet" blends pop, indie, rock, and melancholic tones, with hints of Americana and even punk edginess. This genre-bending approach mirrors Joy's own journey, reflecting the "wild, wavy change" and the "big beautiful swirling bloom of confidence" she experienced. Tracks range from emotional ballads like "Not Gonna Fall" to anthemic rockers like "Sunrays," each serving as a chapter in her story.

Joy's lyrics are reminiscent of anti-folk artists, while her guitar riffs evoke indie punk energy. She describes the songs as "love songs," born from a period of returning to songwriting after years away. In addition, the tracks have some genuine moments of fun, joy and expressive playfullness throughout.

"It’s not always easy to feel strong and courageous. I’m glad I bottled some, for whatever's next.
So here’s my offering. They’re all love songs.” – Joy Burklund
