Hartlepool’s indie-pop five-piece MARKETPLACE are back with "Ode to Monty". Playful yet heartfelt, the track humorously reimagines love songs by making Gardeners’ World host Monty Don its unlikely muse. Following their radiant debut EP, the single showcases MARKETPLACE’s infectious energy and sharp lyricism.
Produced by Chad Rodgers (Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Cape Cub), "Ode to Monty" blends rich basslines, crunchy guitars, driving drums, and shimmering synths into a dreamy yet sophisticated soundscape. Evie Rhodes’ bright vocals bring warmth and wit, creating a uniquely compelling experience. Evie shares that they wanted to write an earnest love song, but they never take themselves too seriously. Drummer Ross jokingly suggested Monty Don, and somehow, it worked.
Drawing influence from Alvvays, Declan McKenna, and Pulp, the band has earned high support and shared stages with the likes of Alfie Templeman and Swim Deep. MARKETPLACE continue to rise, with a UK tour on the horizon.
