What has transpired in Los Angeles County over the past few weeks is something that felt unfathomable before it happened. Families ripped away from their homes, long standing historic communities destroyed in the blink of an eye – it’s truly unspeakable. While the magnitude of this situation is still being assessed, it can be difficult to know how to help.
The Santa Anas are something that have always been a part of living in Southern California, spoken about with equal parts annoyance and endearment. With climate change, these infamous winds have turned into a tool of utter destruction, and the entire country is watching this unfold before our very eyes.
But through all of this devastation, creative industries are coming together to help drum up funds and provide hope for the local communities as they start to rebuild. Just last week, Fire Aid showcased legendary bands and artists like Stevie Nicks, No Doubt, Nirvana, and more in order to raise money.
Today only, the indie music community pulled together an awesome compilation, entitled “Good Music to Lift Los Angeles”. Featuring some of our all-time favorites like Death Cab, Dawes, Modest Mouse, TV on the Radio, and Perfume Genius, the album comprises 90 songs total and net proceeds will benefit California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund and Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
If you have the means to do more, there’s a spreadsheet that is tracking Go Fund Me’s for all music industry professionals that have been impacted.
