Featured artist Isobel De Leon, aka Of Lion, collaborates with Lemonade Baby to weave the magic that can arise when two talented and innovative artists connect on a shared wavelength.
Reflecting on the creative process, Lemonade Baby recounts their fortunate yet unexpected meeting at a record store after one of her shows. “Izzy and I met in Nambour…we hit it off trading references like Evanescence’s Bring Me To Life and The Sundays’ Here’s Where The Story Ends,” he explains. From there, their session unfolded naturally. “After talking for a few hours, we busted out my Casio keyboard, and Izzy played the opening piano melody. Lyrics came very quickly.”
Isobel’s intuitive approach added a raw edge to the collaboration. “The lyrics are kinda petty, directed towards someone who only wants to know you when it suits them,” she shares. “We didn’t overthink anything; we just went where the music took us.”
The result is a song that I picture many playing on repeat, when they find themselves in a relationship with someone who seems at best inconsistent, where effort is one-sided and frustration inevitable. It is this ability to provoke such emotion, however, that allows Of Lion’s storytelling and Lemonade Baby’s production flair to break the surface…
