San Francisco-raised singer-songwriter Cate Tomlinson's latest EP, The Side Effects of You gets a precursor in the form of the single "Side Effects." The pop ballad is a sullen look at her past experiences in a toxic relationship and the residual pain she suffers from it. Here, Tomilson explores the many ways of the lingering effects of her past with lines like "But I’m still having fevers/I’m infected with a grudge/I still get the migraines like the nightmares weren’t enough/I’m so bitter I forget to breathe until I’m blue I think I’ll always suffer from the side effects of you." On the production side, the track is bolstered by a polished and warm soundscape comprising soulful guitar plucks, atmospheric pads, and strings that soar to a fever pitch in the chorus section.
