Elizma’s new single “Secrets” shines a light on the dark side of culture

Elizma’s new release, ”Secrets,” is an achingly raw account of her struggles with addiction and recovery, a musical moment both intense and necessary. Woven with frenetic energy and an elaborate arrangement, the fast-paced track suspends a sharp narrative that doesn’t pull punches. Based on a turning point in her life, “Secrets” is a deep dive into the toxic culture that glorifies substance use and explores the risks of masking pain behind closed doors.

“Secrets keep me sick” is the refrain that fuels the song's center. This powerful phrase, fueled by Elizma’s experiences in rehab, encapsulates the burden of the unsaid that keeps an addiction going. The lyrics illustrate the desperation and hope to intermingle during recovery and hang as an anthem for anyone who's felt the depths of substance abuse’s darkness. Elizma’s vulnerability is striking, pulling listeners into her narrative while delivering a glimmer of strength.

The track is a challenge to the music industry. Elizma wonders how our culture makes drug use seem normal or even admirable. “Secrets” is her protest, a critique of an industry that too often disregards the impact of its power. In the age of fentanyl poisonings and overdose deaths, she calls for accountability: “Kids are hearing about these substances in songs and dying because of it.”

Elizma’s “Secrets” is a rallying cry, a personal confession, the message encased in the rhythm of urgency. It’s a daring challenge for musicians to examine their words' weight because sometimes our secrets can cost lives. Embrace “Secrets” and its message. It’s time to shatter the silence.
