Fruit Unveil Poetic New Single “Racehorse Deathwatch”

Manchester/Liverpool-based post-rock six-piece Fruit is back with their powerful new single, “Racehorse Deathwatch.” Known for their unique blend of dissonance, noise, and poetic lyricism, the band’s sound has been described as “a morose and angry John Cooper Clarke fronting Mogwai.”

Produced by two-time Mercury-nominated Shuta Shinoda (Spiritualized, Ghostpoet, Hot Chip), the track delivers a hypnotic and tense atmosphere, driven by angular guitars, shifting time signatures, and raw spoken-word vocals. Thematically, “Racehorse Deathwatch” explores punishment and retribution, drawing inspiration from poets Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Mikhail Bulgakov. With jagged guitar riffs and dissonant shifts, the song reflects a sense of inevitability, embodying the message: “Never kick a gift horse in the mouth.”

Fruit have quickly made their mark with a series of packed shows across the UK, including Night and Day Café and Windmill Brixton, and have supported acts like Automotion and Martial Arts. Their live shows, including upcoming dates in Manchester, Sheffield, and Paris, promise to continue their upward trajectory.

Catch Fruit live:

  • Nov 14th – The Washington, Sheffield (Supporting Meltheads)
  • Dec 7th – Supersonic, Paris (Showcase)
