Alternative indie artist Neito Han released his first fully original bilingual song, “Good Luck, Stranger,” on Friday.
This is Nathan Sharp’s second overall release under this new moniker after seemingly dropping the stage name NateWantsToBattle earlier this year. He previously released a new version of his breakthrough single “Mangled” in September.
“Good Luck, Stranger” is a J-pop track with rock elements soulfully sung in both English and Japanese. It opens with groovy guitars before bringing in a more full instrumentation consisting of cymbal-heavy percussion and understated bass.
Lyrically, the song sees Sharp look back on a former relationship and wonder how his ex-partner is doing. He is seeking to put this past behind him and stop trying to search for answers he’ll never find about it. This lack of closure may hit close to home with many listeners.
Time will tell where the Neito Han project goes from here, but NateWantsToBattle fans need not fret. “Good Luck, Stranger” shows that Sharp is willing and ready to move on to bigger and better things while continuing to carry the essence of his former self, both on a thematic and sonic level.
