MVI is the musical project formed by Mark Vickness, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. For their latest release “Mandolin Spring,” MVI (Mark Vickness Interconnected) have teamed up with three time Grammy Nominee Mike Marshall to deliver a stunning progressive instrumental acoustic fusion.
Weaving together cultural influences with instrumental techniques and a multitude of genres, MVI aims to resonate with the global, interconnected nature of modern life. With the addition of Marshall and his experience with creating some of the most innovative and pioneering instrumental music in America, the collaboration elevates “Mandolin Spring,” embodying a unique blend of traditional and modern elements.
“Mandolin Spring” is an uplifting, rhythmic instrumental, where the masterful mandolin takes center stage. Bringing some spring-like energy to the gloomy, dark winter evenings, the track creates a bright, invigorating atmosphere that uplifts the spirit. “Mandolin Spring” emits a rich tapestry of musical styles and traditions.
Vickness explains, “Although I have spent a lifetime in the world of guitar, I have only recently gotten closer to the mandolin. I decided to seek out a mandolin player to collaborate on a piece for MVI and mandolin. We could not have been more fortunate to be able to work with Mike Marshall, one of the most revered and respected mandolin players on the planet! This is a true collaboration in that I came up with the basics for MVI and Mike contributed the entirety of the featured mandolin part. Such a joy to work with a musician/composer of his caliber and pedigree! He has recorded and toured with some of my most important influences including Michael Hedges, the father of modern fingerstyle guitar. I felt that connection recording this piece.”
