Nashville based social justice warrior and singer/songwriter Crys Matthews has just shared her latest important single. Called "The Difference Between", the song is the first off of her upcoming album Reclamation.
With "The Difference Between", Crys Matthews pens a rebuttal to Jason Aldean's racist and violent song "Try That in a Small Town". Crys shares how important it is for the consequences of that hateful rhetoric. She shares, " I was so offended — not just as a Black woman, but as a proud Southerner. The audacity to think that there would be a South at all without my people is the kind of willful ignorance that keeps folks like me from feeling safe in Country and Americana spaces." Lyrics including, "See I grew up country too / We're as country as we want to be / Without all the hate and the bigotry," show this transformative narrative. "The Difference Between" features three LGBTQ artists, all of whom call Nashville home (Crys Matthews, Melody Walker and Chris Housman). Musically, the single features a groove induced guitar riff, under acoustic folk rhythms and steady percussion. The highlight of the song is Crys' phenomenal soul-baring vocals singing engaging melodies. The trio of voices sing together cathartically making the track a must listen to folk/Americana/blues anthem.
Crys Matthews' music is a breath of fresh air in today’s landscape. Her songwriting is rich with storytelling, touching on themes of love, social justice, and personal introspection with a rare authenticity. Live performances are a highlight, showcasing her dynamic stage presence and deep connection with the audience. Whether you're drawn to heartfelt ballads or energetic anthems, Matthews' artistry is a testament to her skill and passion, making her a standout talent deserving of recognition.
