Arizona based singer-songwriter and world creator has just shared her latest single. Entitled "Never the Muse", the song is shared alongside a vintage storybook lyric video. The song is a highlight off of her newly released concept EP The Bard.
With "Never the Muse", Madilyn Mei takes influence from the journey of bards, which is a poet or singer who writes all about their heroes and muses. The term bard originally came from Celtic tradition and the entity has had a livid and vibrant past. Her new single tackles the relatable idea of hoping to be someone's muse. She shares, "I wrote it about myself as an artist who always writes about others but wants to be the inspiration for someone else’s art for once." Lyrics including, " Compare me to a summer's day / Something romantic / Yet charmingly clever," show her desire to be admired. Musically, "Never the Muse" features stunning and lush acoustics under layered vocals. Madilyn's vocals are soul-baring, warm and whimsical, evoking a nostalgic past filled with medieval castles and dreamy hero stories. The music video features a story book with pages that show the poetic lyrics.
Madilyn Mei creates all her own music in her bedroom in Arizona. Inspired by the likes of Hozier, Vashti Bunyan, Fleet Foxes, and Lord Huron, among others, the artist is captivating audiences all around the globe with her indie folk masterpieces.
