Def Jam Recordings R&B star Skylar Simone's newest release Shiver is a 5 track EP that explores heartbreak, infatuation, self-love and the complexities of human emotions. Crafted in the US and London, UK, the project is produced by the legendary D’Mile who gifts Skylar with various silky soundscapes to work with.
The title track "Shiver" sets the tone with its rich atmospheric strings, and bass-driven drums engulfed by Skylar’s dynamic vocal performance. Lines like “Make it melt like ice when I shiver,” thread the breathy verses and rising falsetto melodies, and the singer delivers a resounding piece that evokes unfiltered passion for that special someone. This is followed by the modern R&B tune “Shut Up” comprising woozy synth leads and a prevalent bassline, punchy drums and a sultry vocal performance. Here, Skylar unapologetically states her wants for her partner in a not-so-subtle manner.
Tracks like "Permission" and "Someone Who Cares," show different sides to Skylar persona. The former is a flashy and syncopated groovy tune that clamours for the intimate touch of a lover while the latter touches on vulnerability and the emotional pain that comes with betrayal and the steps it took for her to move on. The final track "I Wish I Lied" sums it up with its overwhelming sombre feel which captures Skylar’s experience in a tumultuous relationship where emotional manipulation and dramatics were the order of the day. She sings with much regret realizing that she wasted time and energy on someone who didn’t deserve her.

Born to an NFL player, Skylar Simone lived in multiple cities from a young age and slowly absorbed a unique mix of cultural influences. Upon discovering her vocal talent and love for music at the age of 9, she began to hone her performing ability by singing the National Anthem at various stadiums across the country. Her tight-knit family ultimately moved to Los Angeles to support her dream of launching a successful music career.
