NIGHTIES is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Justin Acee. The project emerged three and a half years after Acee began confronting his struggle with addiction.
Before releasing music as NIGHTIES, Acee spent years writing and performing with his previous band, Made Violent, which toured globally, playing at various venues and festivals.
After years of intensive touring, the band was hanging on by a thread and eventually split. It was during this tumultuous period that Justin began to address his addiction, embarking on his recovery journey in 2020.
Now, NIGHTIES has released a chill, feel-good single titled “Tired (Invisible),” featuring Los Angeles-based indie pop artist Ian Oshér.
The instrumentation balances out the more serious subject matter of the lyrics, which act almost like a confessional, with Acee listing what he’s tired of dealing with. It captures the essence of realizing you're tired of the person you’ve been and wanting to break free of the constructs you’ve built for yourself.
Acee’s laid-back vocals complement the easy swing of the track, making the song instantly replayable and relatable.
When the chorus hits and repeats the lyrics “I feel invisible,” the easy melody and airy instrumentation transport the listener to a place of introspection, like swaying in a car with the windows rolled down, leaving behind the person you don’t want to be anymore.
As a quintessential nostalgic shoegaze track, “Tired (Invisible)” takes the listener on a reflective journey without evoking sadness or regret but rather a feeling of being understood.
