Diving into the creative process behind the track, frontman Luke says, "Mercury was such a fun song to write, I wrote the lyrics on the back of receipts while I was working in a shop and I'd go home every day filled with ideas on how the song should go. It ended up coming together fairly quickly once I took it to Alex, which was a nice change. When we played it live for the first time I remember our friends, who'd been watching us for a while, being blown away by it, the song felt like we had taken a step up in our quality and I'm so excited for people to hear it."
