Jhyve x Jessie Reyez – "Love In Me"
Toronto singer-songwriter Jhyve teams up with Jessie Reyez for this modern-day love ballad titled "Love In Me". Over a progressive and dynamic cinematic backdrop made up of rich and distorted synths and moody pads, the duo reflects on finding love in a place unexpected and cherishing it forever. The video uses a DIY approach and a retro camcorder aesthetic which gives it a grainy and nostalgic feel.
Mo Kolours – "Time"
After sharing the video for his last release "The News These Days", multi-talented artist Mo Kolours returns with a new effort titled "Time" which sees him focusing on the Chronos concept from a wide range of perspectives. From linear, and circular, to creative, Mo Kolours finds that time is a never-ending phenomenon that can be difficult to measure and the best way is to absorb the moment and find true solace as it occurs. Over a sombre and hypnotic jazz-infused backdrop, he delivers a mellow and soul-gripping melodic performance ripe with insightful songwriting. The accompanying video is directed by Patrick James Verlin who uses a wide variety of effects and shots to capture what seems to be time and how it weaves into the tapestry of our lives.
stoop lee – "DUNDEE"
Detroit artist stoop lee is a multi-genre artist whose new video "DUNDEE" is a playful pop/punk-infused track peppered by candid and heartfelt lyrics about the ups and downs of love and the unpredictability of this thing called life. The video is a blend of performance shots, a motif-driven piece that follows stoop through the rigmaroles of life and how he managed to get through the day with a cheerful smile on his face.
Mackenzie Shrieve – "Good Lighting"
NYC-based singer-songwriter Mackenzie Shrieve makes a solid entry on our visual list with "Good Lighting". The reflective guitar-driven piece explores the concept of fleeting friendship and the emotional turmoil that comes from friends who are only around when the lighting is good. Backed by a warm and playful soundscape made up of lush guitar riffs and crisp grooves, Mackenzie takes us through the ups and downs of such friendships from her perspective. The accompanying visual follows Mackenzie hanging out with a friend played by singer/songwriter and actress Jane Bruce (Harry Potter & the Cursed Child, Jagged Little Pill, Law & Order) and is shot in the trendy Brooklyn restaurant Dinner Party
Snotty Nose Rez Kids – "Red Future" (feat. Electric Fields)
Indigenous Hip-hop duo Snotty Nose Rez Kids lead us into their world with their new single "Red Future" which serves as the title track of their upcoming album. The track is an upbeat anthemic underpinned by vivid and insightful lyrics layered over rich cinematic synths and a mantra-like chorus. The song is bolstered by an eye-popping animated music video that serves as a visual gateway to the project, setting the tone for what's to come. The video transports viewers into SNRK’s bold new world, merging artistic expression with a futuristic aesthetic, and acts as a visual complement to the album. Eli Jae – "All Over"
Uprising R&B/afropop singer/songwriter Eli Jae delivers the visuals for his latest sensual banger titled "All Over". Bolstered by rich infectious grooves, sultry melodic runs and an overall head-nodding vibe, "All Over" sure hits the mark with its memorable melodies and catchy hook which will linger on after a while. The visual taps into the theme where Eli pours adulations on that special someone and he is ready to go the extra mile to satisfy them. The visual is quite cinematic and engaging with its use of performance shots, sensual choreography and exotic set pieces that show Eli and his leading woman in their element.
Rosewood Swing – "Tha Mobb"
Rosewood Swing takes us into his affairs in his new single "Tha Mobb", a mellow reflective tune that showcases his smooth laidback flow over a soulful and bass-heavy soundscape. Dumomi The Jig – "Butterfly"
UK-based Nigerian musician and afrobeats rising star Dumomi The Jig delivers the visuals for his new single "Butterfly". The mid-tempo track produced by Nigerian beatsmith Black Culture is a sublime piece ripe with hypnotic bass-driven grooves and surreal pads underpinned by Dumomi's expressive lyrics and smooth vocal runs. Described as a reflection of past experiences and a burning desire for new love, the track is effortlessly captivating, from the beautiful vocals and infectious melodies to the emotive storytelling, and demonstrates Dumomi’s remarkable ability to convey emotion through music.
For the accompanying video for "Butterfly", Dumomi recruits the talents of Visionnaire Pictures’ George Guise (Ms. Banks, Aitch, Nafe Smallz) to create a visual spectacle that brings the track further to life. Shot in the very picturesque locale of Zanzibar in Tanzania, the video is a cinematic portrayal of love that creates an immersive visual experience for the viewer that complements the song’s narrative of deep attraction and affection. Bryony Williams – "Trip Me Up"
Indie-pop singer/songwriter/music producer Bryony Williams caught our attention with her latest effort titled "Trip Me Up". The upbeat guitar-driven piece is nostalgic, reflective and heartfelt all at once as Bryony's 90s prom-com-inspired theme takes precedence alongside her distinct and lilting melodic runs. Seen through the lens of a woman, she gives listeners the ups and downs and dynamics of blossoming love while trying to find one's true centre.
The visual doesn't shy away from the retro subject and uses similar aesthetics to bring the song to life. Seamless transitions, landscapes, performance shots and more all blend like an intro to a forgotten 90s sitcom.
Zenesoul – "KEOTR"
JUNO Award-nominated R&B singer and songwriter Zenesoul is back with her brand new release "KEOTR" which is a precursor to her forthcoming EP arrives later this year. The uplifting track sees Zenesoul calling on herself and others to keep pushing through and keep staying true to themselves in love and relationships, despite the pain and toxicity that may be around them. In her own words, ‘KEOTR’ is a reminder “to guard your soul and maintain focus on who you aspire to be”. The song comes with a beautifully emotive and Afrocentric music video, shot in Lagos, Nigeria, and put together by burgeoning filmmaker Mic Daviz (Skales, Zlatan, Portable), and video producer Tfry.
Kenny Barz x XV – "Stripes" Ft XV [Prod. Ludum J]
Kenny Barz connects with XV for "Stripes", a heartfelt and introspective tune that explores self-growth and display of lyricism from both emcees. Backed by the dreamy and sublime soundscape provided by Ludum J, Kenny and XV bring pure lyricism to the forefront with a relatable thread. The visual pays homage to the 90s-styled hip-hop videos but takes liberties with it blending performance shots, funny moments and eye-popping lighting to complete the job.
Lei Hope – "21"
Uprising genre-bending musician Lei Hope drops the meta-styled visual for his new song "21". The heartfelt track explores the self-growth, maturity and coming of age of a boy to a young man who overcame his fears. The guitar arrangement is summery and soulful and his laidback melodic performance is emotionally punchy as well. The visual is creative as it splices performance shots of Lei being viewed from a computer desktop and various clips of his old videos chronicling his growth as a musician.
"21" is a single taken from his forthcoming EP Matrices which will be released on 10th May via Heist or Hit.
J. Bernardt – "Taxi"
Singer-songwriter J. Bernardt – aka Jinte Deprez ( of Balthazar fame) is currently preparing his sophomore studio album, Contigo but in the meantime, he shares the cinematic visuals for his new single "Taxi". The track is a mellow funky bass-laden piece that follows an individual who sought to escape from the world after a breakup. The visual style is cinematic and exciting as we get to dive into Bernardt's world with him in the lead. The retro set pieces, costumes and urgent motifs all come together like white on rice.
