Multi-faceted pianist/composer Vera Bohl was born in Düsseldorf and studied composition and art in London, UK where she won the renowned CIR Prize for Music. The veteran composer also managed the philanthropic art prize for Paul Allen and Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), performed on numerous stages across England, set up art installations at Tate Britain and collaborated with various musicians such as Dido and Celine Dion. With a string of successes, showcases and a position as a professor at the department for music production and piano major in Freiburg where she developed a new contemporary music production course, Vera is not slowing down any time soon and now she has a new project on the horizon. Her latest single "A Liberade" serves as the precursor to her Carrossel, and it's a reinterpretation of Claude Debussy's 'Clare de Lune', the original, which plays over the radio in Terrance McNally's 'Frankie and Johnny', moonlight shines on the characters as they listen to "Clair de Lune". Running close to the 3-minute length, Vera revisits Debussy's piece from a different perspective and using a measured pace, she slowly takes listeners along for an emotional journey that explores loneliness and the pain of having loved at some point. The tension slowly builds up to the emotional resolution at the end is quite soul-stirring and hits the heart allowing us to be set free at the end.
The EP ́Carrossel ́ will be released on March 28th, 2024. The EP is a musical description of her life in Portugal, the EP titles all describe scenes and moments in Portuguese. The EP will focus on her take on the art of improvisation and promises to push the envelope.
