The project opens up with “MAKEUP”, a midtempo trap piece that is made up of dreamy textures, sombre keys and snapping drums. Here, he delivers his characteristic melodic and playful flow that centers around his current state of mind. The next track “I DIDN’T LIKE IT” continues his stream-of-consciousness style and here he makes use of a dark cinematic backdrop. The overall feel has an atmospheric feel and at times the autotuned vocals sound drowned out but not in a bad way but rather for aesthetic reasons to draw listeners deep into the mix of the action. Once again, he shares with listeners his thoughts and his never-ending grind. On “FITTED” he teams up with fellow rapper jonoftf for a one-two-punch collaboration. The trap production uses a distorted bass synth that engulfs the rest of the instrumentation with the vocals resting in the background but the song changes up in the middle section with the use of laidback transitions and ethereal pads.
The project closes out with two songs that capture Mxitnn’s off-beat and playful style and his singular use of a certain type of trap sound that suits his demeanour. “POP IT” is him flexing on the opposition and showing them that he is far from being at the bottom. His melodic flow is patterned to the usual dark trap styles and it’s somewhat engaging for the most part while in the final track “IN LAST!”, he talks about the endeavours that took him from point A to B. He also details the craziness of growing up in a dangerous neighbourhood and how he learned the ways to survive as opposed to being a victim.
In a nutshell For me, is an interesting but not mind-blowing project that uses similar themes to tell a story. Mxitnn doesn’t attempt to go over our heads with dense lyricism as he sticks to what he knows and how he conveys his stories is what matters.
