DJ Roc – "Ravin".
DJ Roc helps us start the segment with "Ravin" which drops us right in the middle of a midnight rave party. The synths are bright and happy and the rousing drum breaks help raise the ante. The fun doesn't stop as DJ Roc brings in more elements at the midpoint. I like the simplicity and measured pace of this tune.
on.sat – "FLOWS".
Uprising producer on.sat serves up some lofi-soul vibes with his aptly titled track "FLOWS". He blends thick basslines, warm keys and pads with soul-stirring vocal samples against sparse downtempo drums in a seamless manner. This is perfect for one's study session or background music while sipping coffee and eating biscuits.
TJ Guardino – "Pickpocket"
TJ Guardino caught all of our attention with "Pickpocket", a snapping soulful/jazz/hiphop construct that blends live instrumentation with digital sounds. The drums are crunchy, the guitar riffs are slick and the way he throws in those rich synths and pads is surgically beautiful.
Astronomers of the Strange – "The Fumes of Identity"
Astronomers of the Strange's contribution to the list is titled "The Fumes of Identity". A peculiar title but the production speaks volumes as he flips an array of classical samples with jazz aesthetics. The keys are layered, the pads are dreamy and the progression rises to a plateau and gives listeners a feeling of ecstasy and comfort. The track is lifted from his new album, Old Time Oblivion.
Eden Barel – "Club Supreme".
Tel Aviv-based producer Eden Barel closes out the list with "Club Supreme", a brilliant cinematic-jazz tune with hip-hop aesthetics. The horns are anthemic and brass stabs add that retro feel while the dreamy pads all come together seamlessly over the crunchy drum grooves and slick guitar plucks that wallow in the background.
