"Dad's Drawing Pad" is the latest release from Florida-based rapper/ songwriter MeRCY and it serves as his lead single from his upcoming album, Michaelangelo, dropping in early 2024. The reflective tune is a heartwarming tribute to his late dad who raised him and made him the man he is today. Over a soft, melancholic piano-driven backdrop, provided by Lebanon Don, MeRCY crafts autobiographical verses littered with imagery of his dad and chronicles his life and legacy. Lines like "The No.2 pencil was his choice of weapon, didn't need a voice to draw your attention/Laying back in the corner, doing his sketches/Watching his grandkids while they clean up they messes" give listeners a glimpse into the rappers' relationship with his dad and also shares his artistic prowess. MeRCY also juxtaposes this with his own life and just like his dad, he is painting his own life albeit in a different manner. Also on the track is his blood brother P. Hall who provides a soul-gripping melodic hook and helps consolidate the tribute track.
"Dad's Drawing Pad" also comes with a visual scrapbook crafted and edited by visual animator Jimmy Nguyen.
