Vancouver alt-pop-rock talent Fake Shark captures strength and resilience on 13-track collection Afterglow, delving into surviving a time and situation in the artist’s life and journey that felt difficult to overcome across a seamless blend of fresh soundscapes and fan favourite hits.
Opening with the high energy styling of “Kinda Like It,” and “So Strange,” the album quickly swerves into the luscious sonics of “Save Me,” as well as the groovy touches of “Stupid and Happy,” all of which drive home the versatility that the project brims with.
Anti-summer anthem “Bummer Summer,” and final number, the slow-build, guitar-led “Middle of the Night,” finish off the album on a high note that has us dancing along.
Giving us hope of coming out from darkness as a stronger, smarter person, Afterglow makes for an inspiring and relatable listen.
