South-Wales based singer-songwriter The Honest Poet offers up a seamless blend of hip-hop, spoken word, R&B and soul with open and honest lyrics on “Toxic City,” delving into his personal journey of witnessing his mother’s tumultuous relationships throughout his upbringing.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the track, he says, “The song is an expression of my experience witnessing domestic abuse in my mother’s relationships growing up. Talking from an outsider point of view and its effects it has on 2 people. The sample emphasis “don’t love me, can’t hurt me” was the inspiration that triggered the subject matter.”
