Grammy nominated singer/songwriter and New Englander Seth Glier has just shared his latest single. Called "Mammoth", the track is off of his upcoming new album EVERYTHING which is all about climate solutions and is slated for release January 26th this year.
With "Mammoth", Seth Glier writes a unique song from the perspective of a Woolly Mammoth who is brought back to life. His experiences in the new world will feel strange and fresh and the song discusses this distinctive narrative. Lyrics including, "I am a Wooly Mammoth / Frozen in the Ice / Now they are trying to bring me back to life / If I could go back / go back to you," show the self awareness the animal has. The possibility of the animal coming back to life isn't that far fetched as currently there are scientists Sergey Zimov and Nikita Zimov who are on the hunt for frozen samples of the animal's DNA to bring them back. Seth Glier confides, "There is some merit to this idea as a climate solution. The Permafrost is one of the largest carbon reservoirs we have. In the grazing ecosystems, mammoths trample snow while foraging during the winter. When the snow is packed beneath their significant weight, it allows deeper freezing of the permafrost and thus protects it from degradation." Sonically, the track is a calming and tranquil lullaby filled with soulful vocals and delicate piano. The calmness of the track mirrors the stillness of the snow in the animal's environment for a thought provoking listen.
Seth Glier is a prolific songwriter and live performer who has shared the stage with James Taylor, Ani DiFranco, and Glen Campbell among others. He also often works as a cultural diplomat with the US State Department teaching music to refugees. His upcoming album EVERYTHING, is an eight track collection of songs that are dedicated to possible climate solutions. Take a listen to "Mammoth" now and catch Seth on tour.
