Up-and-coming New York-based singer and songwriter Yasmina caught our attention in 2022 with her single "don't deserve this", and has since been on our radar with a couple of engaging singles under her belt. Her latest release "funny girl" is a sublime and dreamy ballad that she crafted as an ode to her best friend who always helped her out of the doldrums. The production here is quite atmospheric and is layered with rich pads, smooth piano riffs and soft drum grooves, engulfed by Yasmina's sultry earworm melodies. The track is also inspired by the Alice in Wonderland story which Yasmina uses as a world-building tool in the song. Lines like "I’m eating cartoon french fries, step to my right and I see all the bad guys but you’re so funny girl" show how her off-kilter songwriting plays into the theme of friendship and love.
"funny girl" is a single taken from Yasmina's forthcoming EP titled The process, which comes out on October 13th.
Yasmina started singing and dancing on stage at an early age. She also took Clarinet lessons while growing up around classic neo-soul, funk, classic R&B, and pop music.
