Juno-winning / Polaris-shortlisted Canadian R&B vocalist Dominique Fils-Aimé recently released her latest LP, Our Roots Run Deep via Ensoul Records. The 14-track body of work is a conceptual piece that explores themes such as internal growth all threaded by loose cinematic soundscapes and rich earworm melodies with Dominique's vocals also acting as an instrument throughout the project. The project was heralded by 4 singles that set the tone for the project. Tracks like "My Mind At Ease" explore self-care and the process of healing after a period of pain while “Quiet Down The Voices” sees her utilizing only her vocals as the backing track with layered melodies that compliment each other. In, “To Walk Away” Dominque changes gear from the growing pain narrative and we get to see her blossoming into who she really is after the change. Bolstered by a clapping beat, joyful trumpets, and the warm sound of hand drums that radiate an energy of encouragement. Dominique’s bright vocals bring an infectious positivity, nudging the listener forward. "Give Me A Reason" dives into loving someone deeply to the point of no return and consequently finding it hard to leave or live without them. The track has a soft warm pad, and jazzy horns peppered by Dominique's scat singing that adds a sublime layer to the track.

Our Roots Run Deep is an album that can be played from start to finish. Songs move in organic sequence—flowing leisurely, falling dramatically and shaping the environment. This style of continuity allows the audience time and space to sink into Dominique’s world on a trip of their own.
