Toronto R&B artist KIANA never fails in providing us with silky, soulful R&B anthems which instantly captivate you. Her latest release not only follows suit, but it also packs a powerful punch with its thought-provoking narrative. The music video for “wait on me” featuring Lou Celestino, takes inspiration from a tragic story in Iran, where a couple were sentenced to prison for dancing in front of Iran’s Freedom Tower. KIANA expresses her gratitude for all the brave and bold women, sharing, “The video was inspired by women in Iran who have gone against rules to regain their power and rights by fighting for their freedom to make decisions freely and live unapologetically.”
Directed by Sina Dolati, the music video is set in a dystopian version of Tehran, Iran, in a prison-like confinement center. We see KIANA and Celestino kept apart, as they desperately try to find a way back to one another. The songwriter explains, “Both Sina Dolati, the director, and I are huge fans of slasher and horror films and somehow wanted to incorporate that element through a 90s film style of shooting for the specific final end scene.”
Delivering a vibey track, perfect for those late nights, as well as potent message and stunning, cinematic visuals, KIANA does it all. This artist can truly do no wrong.
