SoCal indie-pop/nu-disco duo JUICYPEAR take us along on their life’s journey together on their glistening self-titled debut album. Weaving through the ups and downs of their marriage and starting a family together, the tender album is an intimate account of their shared passion as artists and individuals.

An album that’s been three years in the making, the husband-wife duo have lived through everything from the pandemic, job transitions and relocations, as well as welcoming two children as they’ve treaded to completion on this nine-track collection.

Offering up an encapsulation of timeless and long-lasting love alongside growth and evolution , JUICYPEAR speak to Earmilk about the most rewarding part of the music making process, striking a balance between their personal dynamic and passion, their personal favorite track on the album, and much more.

1.The making of your self-titled debut was quite a long journey. Looking back now, how would you describe the process of making it in three words?

Unique , intentional , magical.

2.Given that the album took three years to finish, I’m sure you evolved both as artists and as people. In what way would you say that growth or evolution has been reflected in the album?

How we’ve grown as people, individually and as a couple, is the album. When we go into the studio to write music, we write about our lives together. It’s what inspires us the most. Our love, our relationship, and the situations we’ve gone through together. So as you listen to our album each song shares a little bit of our story and what’ve been through and we’ve grown together.

3.Tell me a bit about your latest single from the album, “Island”? What was the inspiration and message behind it?

This song is special. It’s special because it was inspired by one of our favorite places on earth. A tropical island where we just get to live and unplug for the most part to be present. Present to ourselves, our desires, our needs, our friends, our family, our hearts and it gives us space from things that we need space from.

As for the message, oftentimes when you describe yourself as an “island” it can have a negative connotation. Like you’re alone, isolated, possibly misunderstood. But when we sing “I am an island” we mean it in the best possible way. We are learning to become more and more ourselves independent from what others think or want from us. Watching and discovering what makes the sun rise and fall in our own individual beings and learning how to let only love wash upon our shores. We can be islands living in a peaceful oasis, paradise no matter the circumstance or situation. That peace is always available to us. And to you.

4.What’s your personal favourite track from the album and why?

“Island” – it’s our favorite because we got to collaborate with one of our best friends Haiva Ru and because we feel it’s one of the most creative writes we’ve had as JUICYPEAR.

5.The songs on the album capture tender and timeless love. To you, what’s something simple – a gesture or effort- in your day-to-day lives that represents tender and long-lasting love?

We literally wrote a song about this. Keep your love on. We realize the days can be long and life can get really hard, but if we continue to keep our love on towards each other meaning, looking out for one another, being kind, stepping in when needed, a hug whatever it looks like that day. We believe that is what fosters a tender, and long-lasting love.

6. As a couple who also pursue your common passion for music, how do you strike a balance between your personal lives and the part of your lives dominated by music?

It’s actually very easy for us in this season of our lives, we have two kids now and they are our world. It’s forced us to focus on our family unit and raising them. We try to do music as much as we can but it is currently taking a backseat to our boys. We are looking forward to as they get older to including them in our music as much as possible.

7.What’s the most rewarding part of the music making process for you and what’s the most challenging part of it personally?

The most rewarding part for us is we get to do everything TOGETHER. From coming up with topics, to writing out lyrics, to driving in the car to the studio, and creating content for when it’s time to be released, we get to do it together and it’s the best! Wouldn’t have it any other way! I’d say the most challenging part is making and finding time to do it because of our life stage right now.

8.Where do you see your artistry go from here? Is there anything particular – a theme or genre – you’d love to experiment with in the future?

That’s a really good question. We are still trying to figure that one out. We’ll let you know once our baby starts sleeping through the night and we have time to think about it lol.

9.Who inspires you professionally and also on a personal level?

There have been many artists that have inspired us and influenced us and our music. But we would have to say that our friend Allie, a.k.a. Haiva Ru is someone we’ve watched for many, many years go through ups and downs in the music industry, and she is still going! She writes, produces, and releases everything on her own, and is one of the most talented musicians, we know. To watch her work ethic, creativity, and commitment has inspired us majorly! And we just love her!

10.If someone was discovering Juicypear and your music for the first time – in just one word tell them what they can expect to find!

“Feels.”
