Tutara Peak, the brainchild of the multifaceted multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer Harvey Carter, recently released the culmination of the Bassika trilogy with Bassika: Assembly, via Fast Friends.
Known best for tastefully combining acoustic and electronic elements in his music, Tutara Peak now takes a full dive into the acoustic end of the spectrum. In Bassika: Assembly, a string quartet featuring musicians curated specifically for this recording joins Carter’s passionate upright piano and electric guitar performance, delivering an elegant end to the Bassika project.
Bassika: Assembly is the climactic chapter in Tutara Peak’s expansive exploration and personal artistic odyssey which begin with Bassika: Act 1 and continued through Bassika: Act 2. The final part weaves together the narrative and musical themes developed in the previous installments, delivered in a touchingly delicate tone.
To complement the release of Bassika: Assembly, Tutara Peak treats fans to a live performance video alongside the string quartet, recorded at Altamira Sound in California. The video was filmed and edited by JA Collective, who have worked with the likes of Frank Ocean, half-alive, NIKI, and more.
Tutara Peak’s music is influenced by a range of artists, from the ambient ethereal post-rock of Sigur Ros and the innovative indie rock of American Football, to the intricate guitar work of Blake Mills, the soothing electronica of Tycho, and the contemporary classical compositions of Olafur Arnalds and Eric Whitacre. Compositionally, Bassika: Assembly draws from these influences and more, but the recording stands on its own as a uniquely ambitious imprint.
