Macclesfield-hailing three-piece Cassia deliver introspective but summery offering “whatstheuse,” which dives into willingly coming to terms with a chapter of life that has come to a natural end. With a vulnerable message unveiling the raw struggles of dealing with change, the track manages to pair upbeat sonics with a melancholic vibe.
Opening with warbled piano notes that cushion sombre vocals, the track comes to life with a bittersweet feeling rooted in the organic and unexpected instrumentation that we’ve come to recognize as the indie-pop act’s signature sound.
Speaking of the creation of the track, frontman Rob Ellis said “The song was one of the last songs I wrote on a trip over to Berlin and I didn't really think that I had enough energy in me to get something written. I was really feeling the pressure and I knew I had to get myself in the zone and make something new. The track was written with a friend of mine who was visiting Berlin and he had this piano loop prepared- we built the track around that loop and it just pieced together seamlessly.”
With the slick production evoking a sense of nostalgia and reflection, Cassia are set to offer more of their passionate, whole-hearted artistry as the make a stronger return than ever before.
