Burgeoning LA-via-Montana artist Alaska Reid, who makes self-described “mountain pop,” returns with her new single "French Fries," ahead of her debut album Disenchanter out July 14th.
"French Fries" is a captivating and moving track about the power of friendship, and it's a flawless addition to Reid’s recent string of impressive singles that navigate the lives of different characters, some real, others borrowed. Examining the nuances of a long-term friendship with honesty and vulnerability, sonically “French Fries” arrives with deliberate ease, exploring a landscape of emotional states. As the song builds, the instrumentation becomes more lush and atmospheric, perfectly capturing the complex emotions inspired by small town living that are vividly rooted within lyrics such as “We were sharing cold French fries / You were talking 'bout your dreams / And creepy memories and bleeding through your Levi's."
“‘French Fries” is a story song about the evolution of a friendship," says Alaska Reid. "I wanted it to feel like a movie where you are at once sitting with your friend in a diner laughing over cold french fries and dumb stuff, but at the same time there is an undercurrent of reality between you two; splintering paths, bad boyfriends, frustration, love and loss. In terms of production, A. G. had the brilliant vision of making the beginning feel like the start to one of my shows: super intimate, just guitar and vocals.”
“French Fries” is another key release from Reid behind A.G Cook's top-notch production that effortlessly complements her entrancing vocals and vivid lyrical imagery. Disenchanter is out July 14th via Luminelle Recordings.
