Canadian singer/songwriter Johnny Broadway pens an ode to queer love in his new single. Called "Kevin", the track is the first of the year from this up-and-comer.
In celebration of Pride month, Johnny Broadway has just shared his single "Kevin" which details queer friendships that evolve into love relationships. The song also is a public coming out for the artist who hopes his openness as a queer man inspires others. Lyrics including, "Played on the same team / since we were thirteen / confide every secret, why not this? / would it be wrong if we just kiss? / these feelings? It could be heaven / but we were too scared of them / and now I just can't forget him, Kevin," show the intense emotions of falling in love as a teen with a long time friend. The song also narrates how it can be difficult to come out as a queer person and especially to those closest to you. Musically, "Kevin" features nostalgic synth pop landscapes, elevated melodies and pop rock guitars for an enthralling and powerful listen. The music video is based off of the TIKTOK trend of #kissingmybestfriend and includes a mashup of videos.
Johnny Broadway is a multimedia artist who shared his debut album in 2006. Writing about themes including self-acceptance, navigating mental health struggles and family dynamics, Johnny Broadway is gearing up to share his sophomore album in the coming months. Take a listen to "Kevin" now and don't be afraid to express your own feelings.
