Berlin-based Düsseldorf-born singer/ songwriter Pablo Brooks has been building his reputation for a while and with over 50 shows under his belt in just 2 years, he is definitely rising up the ranks. He is currently working on his sophomore EP titled Pleaser and in the interim, he shares his new single "Boys Don't Cry".
The heartfelt pop ballad is an explosive emotional track that explores the effects of toxicity and toxic masculinity within relationships, Inspired by his own experience where his former partner continuously gaslighted him in different ways, Pablo uses his pain to pen a heartwarming and relatable love tale that listeners can easily relate to. The production is quite dynamic and makes use of mellow and upbeat arrangements that add emotional depth with layered feelings. The verses are candid and detail the pending pain and once the chorus comes in, all the pent-up feelings come bursting out like an eruptive volcano. Pablo sure is not afraid of pouring his heart on wax and breaks down the stereotype of young boys being forced to hide their vulnerability. The track is far from Pablo playing the victim and deals with a more nuance approach as he questions some of the things he struggles with himself as he hopes not to do those same things others did to him.
The accompanying visual is motif driven and makes use of the concept of the last supper in a unique way. Using food as a recurring symbol, we see Pablo with his crew enjoying the spoils of a banquet. Some of the individuals are revelling in the splendour until Pablo decides to take charge and do his own thing.
Pleaser is his second EP, released under Believe Digital. Pleaser is about the feeling of losing yourself as a 20-year-old in a major city, like Berlin, where Pablo is based at the moment. Feeling so lost, that you’re secretly wishing for someone to find you. The project focuses extensively on relationships be it platonic and intimate and innermost feelings of anger, bitterness and self-sabotage and how these emotions change over time as one goes through the process of growing up.
