Mighty Brother have released a new album, titled Azimuth. Based in New Orleans, LA, they have been carving a unique space in today's modern rock soundscapes with a distinct mash-up of styles that has been described as a "blend of Avett-Americana and Radiohead-esque art rock". A menagerie of musical influences has led Mighty Brother to develop this indie rock sound that simultaneously infuses folk, funk, and alternative with soaring harmonies and sleek melodies. Their latest offering, Azimuth is a psychedelic journey into kaleidoscopic, vibrant sounds with memorable songwriting and adventurous lyricism.
According to Mighty Brother, Azimuth is more than just a singular auditory experience The music’s cinematic, expressive sound is powerful enough to sway listeners to a whole new world. “Rubia Marionet”- one of the lead singles from the album- embodies traditional music with its eclectic, expressive sound and vibrant melodies. The album’s second song and project highlight, “Weighed Down” conjures a progressive, refreshing sound with its expansive guitars and surreal lyricism. The piece depicts the beginning of a tale when the protagonist first sets sail, describing the moment when the protagonist of the hero experiences doubt and questions the decision to sail.
Since many of Azimuth’s songs were originally crafted during the pandemic, the tracks were written as a way to reminisce what it would be like to perform them on stage. This stemmed from the fact that Mighty Brother were finding it challenging to cope without live shows during the pandemic, as their musical tours were canceled. They describe the feeling as “we felt both nostalgic for the road and hopeful for its return, and poured that love for the journey and the friends you make along the way into the tracks.”
The latest from Mighty Brother, Azimuth makes for a transformative journey across eclectic, psychedelic soundscapes injected with inventive, storytelling lyricism.
