UK-born, Japan-based artist Scott Wade has just released a new single, “My Sting Machines” alongside his short film, Lots If Love. The two are the first to be released from his upcoming project, which will see Wade continue to blend the worlds of music and short film. Through an experimental lens, the Tokyo resident integrates elements of manipulating time within his writing, allowing him to modify structures and ultimately transition various moods and tones within his music.
The instrumental “My Sting Machines” radiates a shimmering, iridescent atmosphere, featuring elements of oriental instrumentation. Showcasing a multitude of sounds, textures and instruments, the single is packed full of surprises. Listening to the full five minutes and 45 seconds is truly like going on a journey, as Wade incorporates unordinary sounds to create something that is otherworldly. Wade shares, “As with the short story, I was thinking about fighting with something natural and inevitable.”
The track also features in the new short film, Lots If Love, where we see a character at an isolated phone booth, talking to a mysterious person on the phone. The artist explains, “The film was a pretty pure experience and it came about very naturally. Most certainly, the crux of the video began with the phone booth location. That was the catalyst of the rest of the ideas. We wanted to shoot there, the location says a lot. It’s a really beautiful place, sort of like you want to get lost in there for a moment.”
Keep your eyes peeled for more gems from Scott Wade, as he takes you down his magical and mystical rabbit hole.
