Described as a sad girl Christmas song, Gina Naomi Baez unveils her latest holiday track with “When You Hear Joni.” Showing that this time of year isn’t always joyous for everyone, she opens up her feelings, sharing a much more emotional and sentimental track. The new single speaks of that heartbreaking feeling and wave of butterflies you get when you hear a song that reminds you of an old loved one, which then, unfortunately, ruins that song forever. The New York-based artist shares, “I love getting into my feelings during the holiday season. I wanted this track to remind people of a classic Christmas song but with a twist.”
Encapsulating everything that a Christmas song should have, “When You Hear Joni” twinkles with soft melodies that cascade like delicate snowflakes and Baez’s emotion-fueled, tender vocals that radiate sincerity. Baez explains, ““I worked with two amazing female songwriters/producers on this song and concept, Meghan Kabir and I really dove into the idea of Joni Mitchell’s River as the song that sparks a heartbreaking memory. We then worked with HARLOE ie: Jessica Karpov on production and making the song sound like a classic Christmas song, with a melancholic nature.”
“When You Hear Joni” is definitely one to add to your Christmas playlists. We all need a little bit of sad girl Christmas every now and then.
