"How It Feels" is a hopeful tale all about falling in love for the first time. Inspired by the relationship between the middle age leading characters in the queer pirate rom-com Our Flag Means Death, "How It Feels" details a fumbling romance that is tender, awkard and fun. Lyrics including, "I've been called an acquired taste / better off dead maybe / then you come around with your sunshine smile / and it turns out I haven't laughed in a while / and you touch my hand / that's how it feels," show the joy after loneliness that takes place when one feels a deep connection and unconditional love from someone.
